Day 9
Day 9
More beautiful weather. Packed up and went to Gladstone for a visit. Could have topped with water next to public toilets but didn't need to.
Gladstone is tiny with a pub/ bottlo and small servo.
Onto more dirt roads to Mt William National Park. Stumpys campsite was recommended by some people in Gladstone so ended up at Stumpys no.2.
This is the spot we have been waiting for. 20m to beach, deep water for a fish and only 2 other campers around.
So fish I did. Sal wandered off for a walk and after about 20 minutes I was onto my first Salmon. Small but a start. Sal came along just as I caught another larger one and quickly saw me catch a large Salmon which will feed both of us easily.
As good as it looks in the pan the taste didn't do it for us. Did everything you need to do for a Salmon but next time either battered or fish cakes.
Tide was dropping so we walked out to explore the rocks just offshore and next thing it was happy hour.
Enjoying a red and a read when we heard a loud bang about 20 m away. A decent tree had decided to fall over onto the car parked there. All jumped up to go to help. With the aid of a chainsaw and 8 men we lifted it so the car could drive out. Damaged car but no injuries.
You can see how it rotted at the base and split.
Apparently She Oaks are known to fall for no reason. Maybe that's why this spot is almost empty and the other sites are busy.
JUST A NOTE RE YOUTUBE LINKS. I find you have to highlight it just like you would cut and paste it and. It says Open next to cut and paste. Hit the open and video opens.
